Blogging with a Purpose
Blogging – The Who, What, When and Why
I know, I know, you are reading your 100th blog about blogging. You are sick of hearing about it. You would rather read about the Rule Against Perpetuities than read another blog about blogging. Ok that was a bit dramatic, but it isn’t too far from the truth. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but blogging is vitally important. Search Engines are increasingly looking for specific answers to specific questions. One of the best ways to do this is through a blog. It adds new content to your page and does exactly what Google spiders are hunting for – answers the questions that consumers are asking. So what makes a good blog?
A good blog provides relevant content on a current topic. Blogging with the idea that you will stuff as many keyword terms into a 600-word paragraph or two is a bad idea. Google is getting smart and isn’t playing ball the way they use to. They want to see relevant content on your website and want to make sure that consumers are getting the answers to what they are searching for. Bottom line – write for your target audience, not for the search engines.
Many people ask how often you should blog. Unfortunately, for those who absolutely despise blogging, the more you blog the better. But there is a caveat; your blogs need to be relevant. (After reading this you will not only be sick of reading blogs about blogging, but you will also be sick of that word – relevant.) So, it is better to write a blog that answers a specific question that consumers are searching for than to write 20 blogs that will be viewed as little more than spam.
Finally, consider adding a picture or video to your blog. Just like a person searching the web wants to be razzled and dazzled by diverse things on a webpage, so does Google. Images help to break up content and help to bring in viewers.
